Dream Mall
Kaohsiung, Taiwan
We teamed with RTKL of Los Angeles to design a new shopping plaza in downtown Kaohsiung, Taiwan’s second largest city and the world’s fourth largest seaport. The complex comprises some 3,000,000 sq ft of retail and themed entertainment space.
We designed an open space system based on a canyon and river bed theme that integrates both the interior and the street, and both green rooftop and basement levels. In concert with the client and the City’s urban design department, we collaborated on the new project which exceeds any in-town retail shopping area in size and design. Subsequent phases of the development are planned for the block across the street from the site of the new mall and will include hotels and residential and office development. The client is the Tung-Yi Corporation, Taiwan’s largest maker of noodles and packaged foods and drinks and the owners of the island’s chain of 7-Eleven convenience stores, among other ventures.
