Historic and Cultural Landscapes Planning and Design
The practice of landscape architecture within historic settings, be it master planning, accessibility improvements, site restoration, or adaptive re-use, requires a special sensitivity to a site’s history and context. In addition, one must have experience with historic research, have an understanding of the changing demands of modern use, have in-depth knowledge of the Secretary of Interior’s Standards, and be adept at the public approvals process. We are fortunate to have staff who are particularly skilled in all these aspects of design and preservation of historic landscapes. We offer consulting services from the earliest stages of a project when the preservation approach is determined to the technically demanding construction phase. These services include site assessment, preparation of cultural landscape reports, master planning, design of accessibility improvements, site design, and preparation of maintenance recommendations for historic sites.
